Description
The Mariners era of the Calgary Cannons, which lasted ten years (1985-94), is an iconic Minor League legend. A "Who's Who" of future Mariners toiled for the Cannons; Danny Tartabull, Brett Boone, Alex Rodriguez, Jay Buhner, Edgar Martinez, Harold Reynolds and Omar Vizquel were just some of the future legends to ply their trade for Calgary. This style of jersey, which was worn in the late 1980s and early 1990s, is also considered iconic and it's quite difficult to find examples on the market today (as of this listing, there's not another one on eBay). This shirt was definitely worn by pitcher Rich Doyle, as pictured on his 1989 TCMA baseball card. It was probably used in 1988 as well, but I'm not sure of the player. Doyle was an imposing hurler from La Mirada California, standing at 6' 5" and weighing 210 pounds. Originally drafted by Cleveland in 1981, the 1989 season would be his final year in professional ball.
The shirt is all original, as used by Doyle. The are a couple of light brown stains on the front, along with nice and moderate overall wear. All letters and numbers are securely sewn on the jersey with single or two-layer twill. The colors on the twill are still deep and vibrant! Manufactured by Rawlings, it is tagged as a size 44 in the neckline. Because of Doyle's 6' 5" frame, the team modified this jersey in two ways... They removed the Rawlings tagging from the tail and added around 2-1/2 to 3 inches of fabric length on the bottom!
