is sewn the waistband with three additional tags sewn around:

his pair of 50 year old pants is in
beautiful
overall shape showing very nice overall use and also appear to be in the same
100% original condition
as worn by Montgomery during the 1972
season at Fenway Park.  They are free of any mends or team repairs.  There is a small area on the left leg from the crotch down a few inches where the double stitching has come loose.  When these were manufactured, the material was folded over and then sewn with two rows of thread.  The one row of thread has come loose but the pants remain sewn shut with the remaining row of stitching (see photo).  It's rare that  you see Red Sox flannel pants in this type of original condition, as these were most often recycled to their minor league teams and as such, have rips, mends and a handful of other names and numbers written in the waistband.
This particular pair appears to have never been recycled after Montgomery wore them in 1972
.
