A native of Lakewood, California, Joel Adamson was selected in Round 7 of the 1990 MLB Amateur Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched in the Phillies system through the 1992 season, then for the Florida Marlins, reaching that team's Major League level in 1996. He subsequently pitched for two teams in the Major Leagues - for Milwaukee in 1997, and for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1998. He finished out his playing career with minor league affiliates of the Boston Red Sox and the Seattle Mariners.
