Description
A team-issued Certificate of Authenticity, dated January 27, 2007, certifies that this Oakland A's game-used #5, size 46, jersey was "personally used" by catcher Jeremy Brown. Brown's drafting by the A's was a major storyline in the novel and movie "Moneyball." He had a short and unspectacular "career" with the A's after winning the "Johnny Bench Award" as the nation's top collegiate catcher and being the A's first-round draft choice in 2002. According to A's personnel at the time of purchase (2007), the jersey was prepared by the team in 2004 in anticipation of an expected call-up of Brown which did not ultimately occur. The jersey was held by the club and then formally issued to Brown and worn by him during the latter part of the 2006 season, his only time with the big league club. Wear and tear is not an issue with this jersey, due to Brown's short career, however, the name plate and uniform number on the back exhibit minor wear, likely the result of watching games from the bench. In "Forrest Green," the jersey is handsome and would be a nice addition to your collection, or a piece of apparel with a very unique baseball and movie story for its wearer to tell.
