A native of San Antonio, Texas, Randy Choate pitched for Florida State University, and was selected in Round 5 of the 1997 MLB Amateur Draft by the New York Yankees, reaching the Major Leagues with that team in 2000. He continued to pitch for the Yankees through the 2003 season, then signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After the 2007 season, Choate pitched in the minors for the Milwaukee Brewers, returning to the Majors with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009 and 2010, the Florida/Miami Marlins in 2011 and 2012, also pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers for part of 2012. Between 2013 and 2015, Choate pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, and in 2016 in the minor league system of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
